"Healthy Hoods" champion and CCHE grantee Committee Against Anti-Asian Violence (CAAAV) has a strong history of organizing for justice in New York City.  Through projects like the Chinatown Tenants Union, CAAV is on the front lines, fighting to preserve Chinatown, NYC as an affordable, flourishing, and green neighborhood and community for working-class Asian immigrants and their families.

ICS is creating healthy hoods by organizing communities in east Los Angeles to create Health Empowerment Zones in public schools, and changing policy to create safe places to play. Not only do they want to make students healthier, they want to keep them in school! Recently, ICS was featured in the LA Times for their work organizing hundreds of students to create alternatives to school suspensions that keep students in school and engaged. On June 9th, the Malcolm X Grassroots Movement (MXGM) issued, “Every 40 Hours: Report on the Extrajudicial Killings of Black People by Police, Security Guards or Self-Appointed Law Enforcers.” “Every 40 hours (now updated to “Every 36 Hours”) documents the police killing of 110 Black people between January 1st and June 30th, 2012.
