Learning Circles and Roots & Remedies Updates
Due to ongoing safety concerns in this time of the coronavirus pandemic, we will not be able to host this year's Spring Learning Circle or July's Roots and Remedies. In the place of these two opportunities for in-person convenings, we will be inviting organizations who have participated in past Learning Circles and Roots and Remedies to join us in two projects that are designed to last six months each. These projects will begin in May and will end with an in-person convening in October 2020. Praxis will provide honorariums for all participants similar to the regular amounts provided for participating in our regular Learning Circles. While space is limited for these two projects, organizations that have participated in past Praxis' convenings will have the first priority for participation.
Disaster Recovery Justice and Continuity of Operations Plans—This project will explore the concepts of disaster recovery from natural (fires, hurricanes, earthquakes) and persistent (immigration policies, economic insecurity, gentrification) sources. We will expand the traditional formula for preparedness and recovery to include organizational, community, family, and individual perspectives. Each participating organization will receive coaching to develop and present a Continuity of Operations Plan specific to their organization and community at the October 2020 convening. Participants will receive an honorarium to help cover the time required for this project.
Digital Storytelling—Organizations will share learnings about effective messaging, building a compelling story, videography strategies, and creative editing. This course is designed for participants to use mobile device cameras and web based production software. This six month project will begin in May 2020 and will meet at least monthly to receive and share learnings as each participant builds a digital project that will be premiered at the October 2020 convening. Participants will receive an honorarium to help cover the time required for this project.
Please keep an eye on you inbox for an invitation to participate in either—or both—of these projects. These emails will likely be sent by April 10, 2020.
