POSITION SUMMARY

Our internships are designed to provide interns with an opportunity to learn the fields of public health and communications while exploring the current national landscape of community-based organizing and people-centered training methodologies and grassroots campaign strategy. Praxis interns are typically currently enrolled full-time students working toward earning either a bachelor’s or master’s degree and tend to have an academic focus on related fields. 

The Digital Media Communications Intern role at Praxis will primarily focus on supporting Praxis’ goals and programs through high-quality digital media about our network of community organizing partners to amplify their work towards health, justice, and racial equity. The Digital Media Communications Intern supports communications-related video and podcast projects. This role requires some experience with digital media post-production. This role will be supervised by the Program Director – Communications and Media.

This is a part-time (20 hours per week), temporary, non-exempt, non-benefits-eligible position with an end date of May 27, 2022. The Digital Media Communications Intern works a set flexible schedule, though close coordination with our other team members is an important job function, including weekly check-ins with the position supervisor during Pacific time working hours.

The Digital Media Communications Intern will be paid an hourly wage of $21-$23 depending on education and experience level. Praxis works overwhelmingly with communities of color and constituent-led organizations. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Digital Media Production Support

  • Support with research, preparation, and production of digital media for Praxis’ Programs and Communications teams for external audiences.

  • Support pre-production processes including development of project strategy, interview guides, script writing, storyboarding as applicable.

  • Coordinate digital media production related travel, logistics, and field schedules when applicable.

  • Support with capturing, recording, and transmitting of all digital media production, video, audio, and/or images for projects.

  • Communicate with Praxis partners and incorporate partner input and feedback to digital media projects.

  • Create digital media with existing and available video and audio assets.

  • Coordinate with department social media strategy related to how assets are used.

  • In collaboration with the communications team, support Praxis’ communications initiatives, particularly digital media communications.

  • Other programmatic and administrative duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • 1 year experience editing podcasts and/or videos.

  • Experience creating content that is oriented around telling stories of communities of color from a community power and justice approach is preferred.

  • Experience using digital media equipment and editing software, such as Adobe Premiere Pro and Adobe Audition.

  • Ability to manage a variety of simultaneous projects within tight deadlines, excellent organizational and time management skills.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills to interact effectively and build relationships with Praxis network partners.

  • Ability to work independently as well as effectively in a collaborative team environment.

  • Direct experience with community organizing or other frontline grassroots advocacy campaign is preferred.

MENTAL AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Fast-paced work environment.

  • High level of concentration and attention to detail required.

  • Praxis currently works remotely both as an internal team and with our partners based across the United States. Leading and participating in remote video and telephone conferences is required.

  • Valid driver’s license, clean driving record, and insurance is required for employees driving on Praxis business; driving record checks may be required as well.
