This past year has been incredibly difficult, transformative, painful, and powerful. The Praxis team has had the privilege of learning from partners in our grassroots network about what community organizers are experiencing and needing during the trauma of COVID-19 while battling racism. One common theme that has come up multiple times is the need for a healing space specifically for organizers of color to rest, connect, and check-in with themselves and each other. Creating spaces of healing, connection and reflection has been a priority of the Praxis network, from Roots & Remedies 2019's yoga, tai chi, cooking and gardening classes, to witnessing organizers in our network take intentional space and time for rest during this season.

Description: The Praxis Project is partnering with expressive arts healer Elizabeth Summers to create a space for self-care healing and reflection for our community organizing partners in 2021. This intimate cohort will connect weekly over Zoom, and spend time looking at work/life balance, compassion fatigue, and what it means to serve our communities, our families, and ourselves during this time.

The sessions will cover self care practices; discussion of stress, burnout and resilience; and the practice of art, writing, and finding joy in creating.

About Elizabeth Summers: Elizabeth has taught theater, creative writing, and expressive arts to young people and adults for over 30 years. She facilitates expressive arts and healing spaces with seniors, youth, those impacted by the legal system, and community leaders.
