Praxis is pleased to announce a three-session workshop series, “Popular Education: Embracing the Legacy and Envisioning the Future,” facilitated by Pancho Argüelles. By attending this workshop you will have the opportunity to:
Learn about the history, key principles and practices of Popular Education
Exchange experiences in our practice of Popular Education in our communities and connect to one another
Identify challenges and opportunities for the practice of Popular Education in our current context(s)
Explore how we integrate Popular Education in our work, organizing practices, healing and accompaniment
Workshop Dates
We ask that you commit to all three sessions as this will be a dialogue based training.

Meet the Facilitator
Pancho Argüelles Paz y Puente was born in Mexico City and has lived in the U.S. since 1997. For more than thirty five years he has worked for human rights in Mexico, Central America, and the United States: as a rural teacher in Chiapas, supporting Guatemalan refugees, co-founding Universidad Campesina in Nicaragua, and with rural cooperatives in Central Mexico.
In Houston, he co-founded Fe y Justicia Worker Center, a community organization for low-wage immigrant workers and currently serves in its board of advisors. Pancho served on the board of the National Network for Immigrant and Refugee Rights where he co-authored the popular education curriculum, BRIDGE: Building a Race and Immigration Dialogue on the Global Economy. He lives in Houston, TX, where he just finished serving as the executive director of Living Hope Wheelchair Association, a community-based organization of migrants with spinal cord injuries and other disabilities where he collaborated for the past twelve years.
Through PazyPuente LLC he provides training and consulting services to social and racial justice organizations across the country. He is a Building Community Power Fellow at the Community Justice Exchange. He also serves on the board of the Highlander Research and Education Center and holds a BA on Education from UNAM and a Masters on Multicultural Education from UHCL.

Conozca al facilitador
Pancho Argüelles Paz y Puente nació en la Ciudad de México y vive en Estados Unidos desde 1997. Durante más de treinta y cinco años ha trabajado por los derechos humanos en México, Centroamérica y Estados Unidos: como maestro rural en Chiapas, apoyando refugiados guatemaltecos, co-fundador de la Universidad Campesina en Nicaragua, y con cooperativas rurales en el centro de México.
En Houston, cofundó el Centro de Trabajadores Fe y Justicia, una organización comunitaria para trabajadores inmigrantes de bajos salarios y actualmente forma parte de su junta de asesores. Pancho formó parte de la junta de la Red Nacional para los Derechos de los Inmigrantes y Refugiados, donde fue coautor del plan de estudios de educación popular, BRIDGE: Building a Race and Immigration Dialogue on the Global Economy. Vive en Houston, TX, donde acaba de terminar como director ejecutivo de Living Hope Wheelchair Association, una organización comunitaria de migrantes con lesiones de la médula espinal y otras discapacidades en la que colaboró durante los últimos doce años.
A través de PazyPuente LLC, brinda servicios de capacitación y consultoría a organizaciones de justicia social y racial en todo el país. Es uno de los Building Community Power Fellows con el Community Justice Exchange. También es miembro de la junta del Centro de Investigación y Educación Highlander y tiene una licenciatura en Educación de la UNAM y una maestría en Educación Multicultural de la UHCL.
