Greetings Praxis community,
It's hard to believe that it has been over one year since our team began sheltering in place because of the coronavirus pandemic. This past year has been trying, and many of us and our communities have experience devastating loss while being denied the basic aspects of community care and healing. It has also been a year of awesome organizing and rising to the challenges stemming from injustices and our inequitable social, economic, health, and justice systems. We are incredibly humbled by the magnitude of your organizing work (in so many ways) and stay committed to imagining and creating a more just and equitable future together.
With that, we are excited to announce our 2021 virtual convenings until it is safe to come together in person. We appreciate those of you who were able to join us in our Self-Care Healing Through Art, Writing, and Reflection sessions, and hope that we'll see you in our upcoming opportunities to connect!
Cooperatives and Democratic Workplaces - Learning Circle: Praxis is excited to partner with US Federation of Worker Cooperatives to co-host a virtual Learning Circle series on Cooperatives and Democratic Workplaces for our network partners and fiscally sponsored projects in May-June 2021.
Love and Liberation: Rooted in Community - 2021 Roots & Remedies: We are excited to host our second virtual Roots and Remedies convening for our network partners and fiscally sponsored projects. Stay tuned for more details, and save the date: July 9, 2021.
Relax with Praxis: Relax with Praxis is a monthly space that we're offering on the last Friday of every month for our network partners and fiscally sponsored projects—with the only goal to have fun and connect. Relaxation and play are often at the bottom of our to-do lists, so we hope that this space provides joy, creativity, connection, and community care without pressure to focus on work and productivity.

PRAXIS LEGISLATIVE & ADVOCACY UPDATES
|
AB1163: The Praxis Project proudly co-sponsored AB 1163 (Nazarian) alongside our CA4LessSoda co-sponsors and coalition partners this legislative session in California. This bill experienced hindrances in the early stages of the legislative process this session. However, these roadblocks do not change our commitment to our communities as we continue to advocate to repeal preemption on sugary-sweetened beverage taxes in the state of California. Thank you all to those who continue to support our efforts!
National Advocacy:
- Praxis proudly supports the Family and Medical Insurance Leave (FAMILY) Act. This national paid leave program would allow people to receive a portion of their pay when they need time away from jobs for family or medical reasons.
- Praxis proudly supported FY22 funding for the CDC's Social Determinants of Health program.

Fiscal Sponsorship Updates: As part of the Praxis Project’s efforts to build power in communities to achieve health justice, we offer comprehensive fiscal sponsorship. At the end of 2020, we welcomed two new fiscally sponsored projects:
- Autonomous Pelvic Care: based in Tennessee, Autonomous Pelvic Care works to increase home- and community-based provision of pelvic and reproductive healthcare. By investing in advocacy, skill-sharing, mutual aid, and a worldview of abundance, Autonomous Pelvic Care builds bridges and fill gaps in rural and marginalized communities to empower autonomy for all bodies.
- Freedom Side Projects: based in California, Freedom Side Projects aims to strengthen feminist decarceral efforts in California and the U.S. through organizing, scholarship, and legal advocacy. They work to build an incubator for feminist decarceral projects such as participatory defense and legal advocacy for survivors of domestic/sexual/reproductive violence, participatory research on the relationship between gender violence and carceral violence, and mutual aid efforts to strengthen networks among formerly incarcerated people.
Over the past quarter we've been actively working to build capacity for the program, and welcome inquiries - but are not onboarding new partnerships at this time. Stay tuned for updates in the coming months!
