Ileana is a lifelong Chicago Latina who grew up surrounded by survivors of the AIDS epidemic. Their experiences working with community organizations and activists has solidified their belief that public health approaches must address and dismantle social inequalities in order to be successful. Her previous experiences have focused on sexual and reproductive health and queer advocacy, and they are passionate about giving marginalized voices the tools they need to take care of themselves and their community. Ileana is a 2021 Health Justice Intern and hopes to utilize their background in reproductive justice advocacy to support different health equity initiatives and ensure people can live dignified lives. She holds a B.A. in Sociology with a minor in Health and Society from the University of Chicago, and will be pursuing an MPH in Behavioral, Social, and Health Education Sciences from Emory University in the fall. When they're not working, Ileana spends her time baking, biking around Chicago, or creating playlists to send to her friends and family.
