May Lynn Tan is currently the Director of Research and Strategic Initiatives at the California Association of Food Banks, based in Oakland, CA. As part of her role, she leads projects to improve the use of research and data in support of CAFB’s mission to end hunger in California.

May Lynn’s background is in public health, and she has over 25 years of experience in the non-profit and research sectors – much of it related to nutrition and food security. Early in her career, she worked as a food bank nutritionist and then a manager of a food pantry. Later on, she served as ED of Global Pediatric Alliance, a non-profit organization supporting grassroots healthcare movements in Latin America. Most recently before joining CAFB, she was with Evidence for Action, a funding program of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, which focused on grantmaking to improve equity and racial justice in research. She currently serves on the board of the East Bay Foundation on Aging and as a reviewer for other funding programs.
