Dakota Rural Action

South Dakota

Dakota Rural Action (DRA) works to build grassroots power to ensure that the people of South Dakota have a voice in the decisions that affect their communities. Bringing people together builds the influence required to make the important changes needed in this state.

DRA fights against things our members see as hurting our lives and communities and fights FOR those things advancing our mission and values. DRA works to raise awareness of the vast potential in our local and regional food systems, bolstering our local economies and improving South Dakotans’ access to local food through training beginning Farmers, Ranchers & Growers and supporting SoDak Grown.

We work with communities to protect the land, air and water that we all rely on from irresponsible development projects like the Keystone XL pipeline, uranium and gold mining in the Black Hills and factory farming operations and the environmental, social and economic damage these projects cause.

We provide an independent, progressive voice at the South Dakota Legislature each year. We have a staff lobbyist in Pierre for the session who tracks bills, testifies and most importantly, works with our members and allies to ensure legislators hear independent voices.

Mission
Dakota Rural Action (DRA) organizes people and builds leadership while developing strong allied relationships. We protect environmental resources, advocate for resilient agriculture systems, and empower people to create policy change that strengthens their communities and cultures.

DRA envisions an active and engaged membership promoting healthy, beautiful, and just food, agriculture, and energy systems that protect clean air, water, and soil for all the current and future inhabitants of South Dakota.
