In Winter 2019, two cohorts of around 30 basebuilding organizers each were convened for a Learning Circle in Albuquerque, NM to build capacity in organizational sustainability and provide feedback on future training and technical assistance that could be offered through the Communities of Praxis.

TRAININGS AND CAPACITY BUILDING

At this convening, participants were offered the choice between trainings focused on fundraising and building accountable governance models.

A Strengths-Based Approach to Raising Money was led by social justice fundraising consultant Rona Fernandez and discussed values and attitudes about money and fundraising, and ways that organizations can use existing skills, time, and other resources effectively to raise more money.

Using Art for Organizing and Community Engagement was an interactive workshop that covered how art could be used to increase community voting power. It also discussed how those efforts impact redistricting and other critical issues, such as the census. This training was led by Southwest Organizing Project (SWOP).

In addition to capacity building, participants convened to provide feedback on the impact of the Communities of Praxis and brainstorm ideas for the design of future trainings and technical assistance. Grounding the conversation in shared working definition of health equity, participants were asked how the Communities of Praxis allowed organizers to advance their work and how the Praxis Project can support them moving forward.
