The Role of Culture in Basebuilding Community Organizing for Health, Justice, & Racial Equity

Check out our newest Centering Community in Public Health Brief.

Culture is integrated into all of our individual and shared identities. Praxis’ basebuilding community partners intentionally center culture in their community organizing for health justice in a number of ways, including honoring the land and those who came before us; respecting all voices and perspectives, including youth and elders; promoting culturally-relevant, anti-racist and ethnic studies curriculum in schools; and more.

The purpose of this brief is to inform institutions and institutional allies of the critical role culture plays in community-led movements, and how to positively and respectfully honor and uplift culture in advancing health justice. This brief describes how community partners define culture, and the barriers, opportunities, and best practices for harnessing cultural assets as we work to advance health, justice and racial equity.

Fiscal Sponsorship Office Hours

If you're someone who has general questions about fiscal sponsorship, or specific questions about our program, feel free to join us at our monthly Fiscal Sponsorship Office Hours! Hosted by our Senior Program Manager, Blair, and our Associate Director, Ariel, these are public Q&A sessions that will take place on the last Fridays of the month at 9am PST / 12pm EST. Feel free to bring your breakfast/lunch and pop in for as long as you need to. We ask that folks at least skim the content on our Movement Building Fiscal Sponsorship page before joining the call, to have a grounding in our approach to fiscal sponsorship and how it supports capacity and power building within movement work.
